First teased last week, eXtremeRate has announced that the transparent replacement shells for the Steam Deck are up for preorder on their website.

Users interested in replacing their shells can preorder one of the transparent options for $35.99, with them shipping around Mid-June. As for the other colour options, they will go on sale later for $45.99.

All replacement sets come with the front and back shell, additional buttons – which will also go on sale separately later – and all the tools needed to do this customization job. Here is everything that is part of the set:

eXtremeRate themselves told us that the most challenging part of this replacement job is the screen removal: "The duration may take more than 2 hours to finish, which means this is challenging work for all the customers, even the experienced." eXtremeRate has published tutorials on their YouTube-channel, so maybe watch some videos first and then rate the difficulty before diving into this project.

eXtremeRate is not the only company working on replacement shells, as JSAUX is also working on them, as teased last week. Project Atomic Purple is coming closer than ever.
