Nitro Deck maker CRKD is back with a new wireless controller — the NEO S. It's a wireless, pocketable pad that's available in a range of fun designs.

CRKD, a relative newcomer in the accessories space, has revealed their latest creation — a new wireless 'collectible' controller that sports a somewhat retro-style form factor.

The new pad, dubbed the NEO S, is the second product from CRKD — the first was the Nitro Deck, a well-received controller dock which when paired with a Switch turned Nintendo's hybrid into a chunkier, almost Steam Deck like device.

The Nitro Deck gives the Nintendo Switch a new look
This new handheld deck for the Nintendo Switch from CRKD acts as a dock and controller in one. We took it for a spin ahead of its release.

This follow-up controller boasts all the features you'd likely expect to find in a modern gamepad, but has the form factor of the retro candy-bar controllers of yore (such as the classic NES pad).

Just like with the Nitro Deck, the NEO S plays nice with the Nintendo Switch — but of course as its Bluetooth powered, this input device will pretty much work with whatever you'd expect it to — from your PC, to your smartphone.

In terms of other features, this upcoming controller has hall-effect thumbsticks (promising no stick drift), hall-sensor triggers, remappable buttons, an internal gyroscope (making it fully motion compatible with Switch waggle games), vibration, and even a turbo mode should you need to win a round of Mario Party.

The NEO S is launching in a range of nine designs, including a handful from POPeART — who is known for creating an array of neat custom designs (as a Brit I loved this recent effort of his). For the NEO S, there's six standard options, and three distinctive editions from POPeART. The full list is below:

  • Retro Gold Edition
  • Classic Clear Edition
  • Atomic Red Edition
  • Emerald Green Edition
  • Orange Zest Edition
  • Electric Pink Edition
  • Splatter Edition by POPeART
  • Blossom Edition by POPeART
  • Junkyard Edition by POPeART

The Splatter Edition (above) looks like a perfect pick-up for Splatoon fans, but of all of the designs on offer, I have something of a soft spot for the Retro Gold model (pictured below) — the Famicom nostalgia is strong with this one.

The NEO S controller is up for pre-order now at a $49 price point, and is expected to start shipping in the middle of April.

Here's an overview trailer running through the features of this upcoming pocketable controller:
