Thanks to a new gameplay demonstration we've got a fresh look at AYANEO's second take on an Android-powered gaming handheld — the high-end Pocket S.

AYANEO has shared a closer look at their upcoming Android-powered handheld, the Pocket S.

In a roughly nine-minute video presentation shared on YouTube (which you can watch below), AYANEO offered a detailed look at the fancy hardware — which was first revealed back in late August.

The sleek handheld will be one of the first to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chip. The Pocket S marks AYANEO's second take on an Android-powered device (following the Pocket Air) — with this new 'S' model pitched as a more high-end device.

The Pocket Air is AYANEO’s first Android-based handheld. But is it any good? Here’s what I think.

In addition to this comprehensive look at the hardware — which will be available in both black and white colorway finishes — AYANEO also took the opportunity to highlight some gameplay running on the future device. In fact, the bulk of the nine-minute video is a demonstration showing how miHoYo's 2023 strategy RPG Honkai: Star Rail runs on the handheld.

When this handheld was first shown earlier this year, one thing was in clear need of a change — the original design featured a rather slim-looking D-Pad — which many were quick to point out was likely not going to be ideal for long play sessions. This new video reconfirms that AYANEO took this feedback on board, and the device now has a much welcomed, more traditional D-Pad design.

I really like the current look here — the Pocket S sports a design that seems to take the best design cues from the likes of the Switch Lite, PS Vita, and Steam Deck, resulting in a sleek, modern and rather pocketable portable.

AYANEO were keen to point out that the prototype device shown in this new video is still an "engineering sample" that's "currently undergoing debugging and optimisation". As such, things are still open to change. As we're now in December, it's likely we will next hear more about this handheld in the new year.
