Players have already spent a collective 93 million hours playing the latest Diablo entry.
Nearly 100 million hours played already
The long-awaited Diablo IV launches today (June 6, 2023) and thanks to pre-orders and pre-launch play the game has already taken the title of Blizzard Entertainment’s fastest-selling game of all time.
The studio announced that this high number of pre-launch sales (across both console and PC) along with the pre-launch period for the game has resulted in the latest Diablo entry having been played for over 93 million hours since early access opened up on June 1. That means Diablo players have racked up over 10,000 years of collective playtime in Diablo IV in just four days — maybe don't tell the boss why you ain't replied to that email just yet.
Oh, and for those moments when you're away from your PC — yes, you can play Diablo IV on the Steam Deck.
What the Diablo IV reviews say
If the massive playtime already sunk into the game wasn't proof enough of its appeal, intial reviews have also been largely glowing.
Jez Corden for Windows Central said that "Diablo 4 might be Blizzard's most important, pivotal game since World of Warcraft".
Lauren Bergin at PC Games N notes that this new entry "embodies the essence of what makes Diablo so great".
Ford James at VideoGamer shares that Diablo IV "feels like the apex of the series".
Twinfinite's review highlighted just how "satisfying it is to play Diablo IV on a moment-to-moment basis".
Not everyone was wholly taken by the new game however, as Nic Reuben at The Guardian notes when you "strip away the hellish screams and scarily convincing Halloween costumes" you're left with "the video game equivalent of hyper-palatable junk food, albeit with myriad colourful warnings on the packaging".
Diablo IV is out now.
