🔗 Valve might be working on a console on par with the PS5

A new rumor claims Valve is working on a console as powerful as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. But maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet.

A dubious new rumor suggests that Valve is working on a new Steam console with performance on par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The rumor originated from social media and aligns with reports I covered late last year. However, as always, take it with a grain of salt—especially since Liam from GamingOnLinux called the speculation a “nothing burger.” He writes on GOL:

Valve have paid developers to work on the AMD Mesa drivers for years at this point, to improve Linux as a whole and ensure Linux drivers are in a good state for upcoming and future AMD hardware. Valve invest in a lot of different areas for Linux, not all of it specifically just for their own hardware. A lot of their contracted developers just work on regular upgrades and improvements like this. Valve have done this for a long time now that we've been covering here.

So while this rumor might turn out to be a whole lot of nothing, one thing is clear: people really want Valve to release a console.
