đź”— Nintendo: "Emulation is legal"
But that doesn't mean they will stop protecting their IP now.
Nintendo’s aggressive shutdowns of Yuzu, Ryujinx, and other emulators last year stirred up plenty of controversy, but their IP lawyer, Koji Nishiura, admitted a key truth: emulation is technically legal.
But anything that bypasses protections or leans into piracy crosses the line, giving Nintendo all the ammunition they need to act. While this might sound like a win for emulation’s legitimacy, don’t expect Nintendo to go easy — legal or not, they’ll keep defending their ecosystem, especially now that the Switch 2 is finally a thing.
