Amazon may yet mess up the movies, but the game looks to be in safe hands with IO.
Cards on the table: I'm a big Bond fan.
I wasn't overly thrilled when the Broccoli family, long-time stewards of the film franchise, relinquished their remaining control of the cherished movie license over to mega-corp Amazon. But hey, whilst Bezos and the gang decide how best to mess up any future films, there's a glimmer of Bond related hope elsewhere thanks to the capable folks at IO Interactive.
They've been working on a Bond game for quite some time now, and it's something that's long overdue.
The history of Bond videogames is an odd one — we had over a dozen early efforts before the true breakthrough of Rare's 1997 GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. Then we got a handful of movie tie-ins and original stories from EA in the early 2000s, but for the past 15 or so years Bond's gaming missions have been sadly absent.
Well, now we know what Hitman maker IO has been up to, thanks to this new trailer that gives us a glimpse of the variety on offer in this upcoming, 2026 return for the British spy. Yes, the titular Bond seen here is an original creation, not modelled on any real life actor — and that's probably for the best. He looks young two, with the trailer noting that First Light is an origin story portraying how a "reckless new recruit" earns his '00' status.
The three minute trailer has lots of variety on show, and you know, I think it just looks darn fun. It's a shame it's not here until next year, but this looks promising to me!
007 First Light is coming in 2026 for Ps5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
