The new EmuDeck 2.2 for SteamOS brings the popular Pegasus frontend to Steam Deck, along with a new design, new emulators, and more.
Emulation took a big hit this week, but it doesn‘t mean the community is sitting still. Today, EmuDeck is releasing a major new update today for SteamOS, bringing several new features like a new launcher, a redesign and more.
With version 2.2, EmuDeck is introducing the popular Pegasus frontend as an alternative to EmulationStation-Desktop (ESDE). Additionally, both ESDE and Pegasus now include a native theme picker for each frontend respectively.
Talking of themes, developer dragoonDorise is also launching his new redesign of EmuDeck. The graphical interface is now much more streamlined, and easier to navigate.
On the emulator front, EmuDeck is adding four new emulators:
- Flycast for Sega Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2, and Atomiswave
- BigPemu for the Atari Jaguar
- Model 2 for the Sega Model 2 arcade machine
- Model 3 for the Sega Model 3 arcade machine
One other emulation change is due to the demise of Yuzu and Citra. Since both emulators have been taken offline, they have been removed from EmuDeck. But if you happen to still have the installation files, EmuDeck will recognize this and configure them for you. They only need to be installed in your Applications
folder on your Steam Deck. (EmuDeck will NOT remove Yuzu if already installed. You can safely update.)
EmuDeck 2.2 is also bringing a few quality-of-life improvements, like a new SteamRom-Manager theme, a resolution selector for external monitors, better Linux and ChimeraOS support, and a layout selector for Nintendo and Xbox inputs.
All in all, it's a great update, making an already fantastic tool even better!
