We created a script to automatically install Fallout: London on Steam Deck, and now need beta-testers.
Good morning.
I just returned from a full day of Magic: The Gathering Commander Chaos Precon. Everyone got a random preconstructed deck, and then we played four games in total. Good day, but damn, I'm tired now. So today's newsletter will be a tad shorter than usual, so let's get right to it.
But first things first: obligatory reminder to sign-up for our gamescom newsletter.
Big this week
I have spent the last week or so hacking together a script, which should semi-automatically install Fallout: London on Steam Deck. The way the script works is that it installs GOG for you, downgrades your existing Fallout 4 installation (otherwise, Fallout: London can't run as it relies on an older version of the base game), and then after prompting you to download Fallout: London installs the mod and optimizes the game for Steam Deck.
After running into way too many issues, I think I'm close to reaching a point where I can say I'm done. But before releasing it, I want to get a few more people to test the script so I can check for any potential issues. It will also depend on these beta tests if I even release the installer in the first place: if too many people have too many problems, I might not be able to support all different edge cases.
So, if you want to beta-test this script, hit reply to this email. But before that, here are the requirements:
- You need to own all Fallout 4 DLCs or alternatively the Fallout 4: GOTY Edition on Steam.
- Your installation needs to be on your internal SSD, and there needs to be enough space left, I think approximately 200GB.
- Your downloaded game has to be set to English.
If you hit these criteria and want to help me out, get in touch, and I'll add you to the beta tester list. Much appreciated!

- The PSVR2 is $200 off just right before Sony is expected to release the adapter bringing PC support to the VR glasses. I'm waiting to order my adapter as soon as orders go live and will report here if I finally find a use for Sony's headset.
- This new petition in the EU aims to stop publishers from "killing" games. There are several suggested possibilities for how publishers could do this, like for example giving the community access to tools so they could continue running servers whenever it becomes unviable for the developers of the original game. Every EU citizen can participate. I did!
- The best ROMHacking website on the internet, ROMhacking.net, is moving to news only after 20 years. All files have been moved to the Internet Archive.
- On more bad news (sorry!): Game Informer, one of the last remaining gaming print magazines, has ceased operation after 33 years.

- The AYANEO Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro are now available on Indiegogo. Prices start at $339 for the Game Boy lookalike and at $189 for the Game Boy Micro-inspired one. I plan to review the DMG.
- A new Steam Deck Beta will show you which of your friends is also playing on Steam Deck. So you can think of them or something.
- Also, Valve is working on adding official support for the DeckHD mod, a screen replacement which will replace the internal screen with a 1920x1200p screen. It's good to see Valve adding support for something that required a patched BIOS, but there's not a single situation where I recommend you add this mod in the first place. From what I've heard, the product isn't even actively produced anymore.
Ok, that's all. I now have to double-sleeve that new precon I got. I swear, I am not addicted to cardboard (yes, I am)!
See you next week!
