With a follow-up planned, maybe the Flip wasn't a flop after all.
Handheld maker AYANEO has today confirmed they are working on a follow-up to their clamshell handheld, the Flip.
Word of a second foldable from the Shenzhen-based hardware manufacturer comes following a spot of recent (and justified) confusion around production plans for their original, crowdfunded Flip device.
In an update to backers of the first Flip device, AYANEO stated that they've seen "continued consumer demand for the Flip" and as a result the "Flip series will continue". They add that the company is now "committed to ongoing development of the Flip product line".
No concrete details of a future Flip handheld were shared, but the company noted that any new hardware iteration will "retain the series’ iconic design while optimizing hardware performance and integrating innovative features requested by our community".
In addition to this comment on IndieGoGo, AYANEO also shared in an email with overkill that although the original Flip campaign has now wrapped up "service will not end" (after-sales, tech support, etc) and we can "expect Flip 2" at some point.
This isn't the typical way AYANEO go about announcing new hardware, so we've no teaser or specs to share just yet, but it's good to see the foldable form factor not being left behind.
