Steam Awards 2024

The user-voted awards include prizes for Best Steam Deck Game and Game of the Year.

The winners of the 2024 Steam Awards have now been revealed, including Best Steam Deck game, along with the big one: Game of The Year.

During the past few months Steam users have been both nominating and voting on their favourite gaming picks from the past twelve months, and now — with 2024 behind us — we have a list of all the games crowned winners in Steam's annual user voted awards.

The big Game of the Year prize went to Black Myth Wukong, beating out titles such as Balatro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and Helldivers II.

Here's the full run down of categories and their respective winners:

🏆 The 2024 Steam Awards Winners

  • Game of the Year Award: Black Myth Wukong
It may not have taken it at Keighley's Game Awards, but the Chinese action RPG took the top gong amongst Steam players.
  • VR Game of the Year Award: Metro Awakening
Fancy donning your gas-mask in VR? This first-person adventure built specifically as a virtual reality title proved popular, and despite launching late in the year (November) came out on top as the fave VR game of 2024.
  • Labor of Love Award: Elden Ring
This 2022 brutal, fantasy action hit continues to devour players time, and thanks to new DLC that dropped this summer, plenty returned for some more of its signature punishing gameplay.
  • Best Game on Steam Deck Award: God of War Ragnarok
Once PS5 exclusive, the award-winning mythical adventure of Kratos and Arteus arrived on Steam this past September — and thanks to its Verified status, plenty of folks were keen to play this one portably on Valve's handheld.
  • Better With Friends Award: Helldivers II
A squad-based interglactic struggle that saw you and some pals take on a rising alien threat. It threw up plenty of unexpected, memorable moments for those playing, and as such has earned the 'better with friends' gong.
  • Outstanding Visual Style Award: Silent Hill 2
The eerie ghost-town setting of this second Silent Hill game got a modern lick of paint last year, and plenty of folks agreed that the foggy glow-up was a good 'un.
  • Most Innovative Gameplay Award: Liar's Bar
Honestly, I'd not heard of this game before today — but it's an early access multiplayer first-person experience in which you have to bluff, outsmart, and outlast the others at your table whilst playing cards and dice games — all set in a seedy, dangerous bar. It's described as the 'ultimate deception playground'.
  • Best Game You Suck At Award: Black Myth Wukong
An award for games where you pretty much just have to 'get gud'. If you've got persistence and don't mind a challenge, it seems like plenty of folks think Wukong can offer just that.
  • Best Soundtrack Award: Red Dead Redemption
Yes, this game first came out in 2010, but some fourteen years later it finally made the jump to Steam. Whether revisiting it, or venturing across the Wild West for the first time, the mood setting soundtrack still makes a lasting impression.
  • Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award: Black Myth Wukong
The third award for Wukong, and this time celebrating its narrative. Bravo to the developer Game Science for their trio of accolades.
  • Sit Back and Relax Award: Farming Simulator 25
...and finally the award for the best game for chilling out with. After an intense session playing Black Myth Wukong, a gentle bit of farming seems to have been the antidote to wind down for many.

That's a wrap on the winners of the Steam Awards for 2024.
